I have www.sailinganarchy.com on my favorites. Though much of the site deals with sailing which is different from what I do, every now and again they catch my fancy. Today, they published a video clip on a reproduction of a 1950 Sydney 18. Worth a look.

War is Hell, but sometimes you've gotta admire the gumption of those poor sods who get caught up in one. This fellow participated in one of the more daring raids of WW II.

Not exactly a homebuilt, but built in the USA! ..... and soon to dismantled ..... so go see the youtube video of her when she's getting put together.

Dennis

The stretched version rows just fine, thank you very much!

Rick

For all of you who want to sail small boats!

A short YouTube video of John Welsford sailing a SCAMP.

This is an inflatable that looks and seems to be well designed and seems to function well?

Here's a video too of another.

A short documentary about the craft and philosophy of wooden boat carpentry.

This is working out better than I had ever imagined. I am trying to teach my daughter how to build boats by including her on a Bolger Bobcat build, but now my 6-year-old son wants in on the action. I had to oblige. It's only fair that I need to start a class for him too, right? :) I so hope this continues. I want them to tell their kids about their memories of building boats with Dad. Here are the details.

We have a new arrival from Lodestar (UK) publisher Dick Wynne: Sea-Boats, Oars, and Sails, which is a reprint of the 1941 Conor O'Brien book.

Scot

Also just received, all the way from Idaho: Lacewood Wooden Sunglasses. Created by the folks at Proof Eyewear, they are well-designed, lightweight, comfortable, have polarized lenses, and, they're WOOD. Wooden box plus soft pouch included.

In case you missed-out, we now have a fresh supply of Utili-Keys, which sold out in early December. Small, inexpensive, and if you ever have to slice-open a package or turn a small screw, nothing is handier.

What does a sailmaker do in the middle of winter? If you're Todd Bradshaw (author of the fabulous Canoe Rig book), you create a life-sized Big Foot. And yes, he's posted it on our WoodenBoat Forum.

And finally, through the magic of the internet, you too can listen to Maine Public Radio. And if you tune-in to the "Maine Calling" show from noon to 1:00 on Thursday the 16th, you can hear author Peter Korn. He wrote the interesting book Why We Make Things and Why It Matters. Yes, we have copies in stock, but don't dilly-dally. Per publisher extraordinaire David Godine, this new book is doing so well, they're already gearing-up to go back on press.

New Blog Post: A Design Interlude.

William

A short early morning sailing video.

I'm helping to mentor a senior at Souhegan HS who is building a boat for his senior project. You can check out his build journal by going to his site. He is very excited and working hard. He loves the idea of folks seeing his work. If you'd like to send him a few positive words/remarks, I'll be happy to forward them.

An archaeologist from the Australian National University has uncovered the world's oldest evidence of deep sea fishing for big fish, showing that 42,000 years ago regional ancestors had mastered one of Australia's favourite pastimes.

Now THIS is some pretty cool wooden sailboat footage. Who knew “barges” could fly?

My Podcast Episode #7 went live yesterday. It is an interview with Geoff Marshall of Marshall Marine. Enjoy!

I have a blog, Log of Ibi. If you find it of interest, please sign on to follow it. I do as much as I can on paddle/camping. We were sailors all our married lives, but had to switch to canoeing when we moved to Oklahoma. If you look at my blog and go back in archives to 2010 and 11, you'll find two month-long cruises on Chesapeake Bay I think you'd like.

Photos and videos of the Minneapolis boat show – lots of jetskis.

Here is an interesting video from Sailrite.
